Winter Warmers: A New Chapter for Community Connection
When the cold winds of November begin to swirl and the days grow shorter, communities everywhere seek new ways to connect, support one another, and encourage a sense of belonging. For the 4th year, Madeley Baptist Church (MBC) is delighted to announce a heart-warming shift in its weekly calendar - starting 4th November, the much loved 'Friendly Faces' sessions will be transformed into 'Winter Warmers'.
'Winter Warmers' is more than just a coffee morning; it's a welcoming space for all, open every Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. As the name suggests, these sessions aim to offer a haven from the chill outside, where anyone in the community can stop by for warmth, sustenance, and conversation.
What's on Offer?
The essence of 'Winter Warmers' is inclusivity and generosity. Everyone is welcome, and there is no requirement to book or bring anything. Here's what you can expect:
-
Hot and Cold Drinks: Enjoy steaming mugs of tea, coffee, and hot chocolate, alongside a selection of cold refreshments for those who prefer them.
-
Warm Food: Each session will serve hot meals - think toast with various toppings, egg and sausage baps and hearty soups, perfect for staving off the winter chill.
-
Cakes and Biscuits: Indulge your sweet tooth or simply enjoy a comforting treat.
-
All Free of Charge: There is no cost for any food or drink; everything is provided through the National Lottery Community Fund, and Telford & Wrekin's Warm Spaces initiative, supported by Madeley Town Council.
-
Warmth and Friendship: Most importantly, you will find a friendly face, a listening ear, and the opportunity to relax in a supportive environment.
One of the unique aspects of 'Winter Warmers' is the regular attendance of local organisations dedicated to improving lives and providing practical support. Representatives from CAP (Christians Against Poverty), Maninplace, MIND, and Telford & Wrekin Council - Housing Options Team, will be present at most sessions to offer signposting to local services, one-to-one conversations and other useful information.
Volunteering
The sessions are staffed by a dedicated team of volunteers, each bringing their own skills and warmth. They greet guests, prepare food and drinks, serve and wash up, ensuring that everyone feels welcome and included. If you are interested in helping, opportunities are always available, whether you can commit regularly or just lend a hand now and then.
Other Groups
MBC also runs other groups to support the local community, including: '
Friendly Faces @ Woodside' - every Monday, between 1 o'clock and 3 o'clock, held at the Park Lane Centre. '
