On 16th May, 1998 some of us from MBC joined over 50,000 people to clasp hands and form a seven mile human chain around the centre of Birmingham (6 deep in places) where the leaders of the eight richest nations in the G8 were holding a conference. This was the biggest display of British solidarity with the poorest countries of the world since Live Aid and was designed to force the question of Third World debt onto the agenda.
